Sleeping beauties

We slept in this morning. I awoke to these beauties:

We toured Marfa-a very cute town- this morning.  Marfa is the town where the movie "Giant" was filmed.  The old historic hotel in town names their rooms where the stars of the movie (James Dean, Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson) stayed while filming.  Here's the county courthouse:

We headed south out of town to Big Bend National Park, a hundred miles away.  The road was beautiful and we had it practically to ourselves.  One of the few people we encountered was this person who was miles from anywhere or anything:

I now know why Lance Armstrong trained in Texas:  one has to be a strong rider because you can go 100 miles between towns on empty roads.

We had lunch just outside the park at the RedChili cafe.  The empanadas were delicious, and the cafe was filled with locals.

(I took a bite and then took the pic)

Big Bend National Park was superb, and again it was mostly empty.  We did pass one other vanagon in the park, the first we've seen since California.

Here are some pics both approaching and in the park, but they don't do the park justice.

We are camping tonight in the park near the Rio Grande River. John hiked to a hot springs (105 degrees) and swam in that with a cool off in the Rio Grande.  I stayed with the mutts.

Border agents in white and green trucks are everywhere, so he didn't swim too far in the river.

Here's our camp in the park:

Lilly saw this directly behind Vanna shortly after that pic was taken and almost took off after it:

My own little Wile E  Coyote.  Good to see Lilly still has a bit of jack russell terrorist spunk left in her.
