Diogenes

We spent the day in Bend waiting for Vanna to be fixed.  It's a lovely town,  and it reminds me of Walla Walla except they have breweries instead of wineries.  We saw five vanagons in town.  Here was my favorite:

It was a syncro with all the bells and whistles including two dogs sitting in the front seats.   They were prepared for everything and were even hauling their own firewood on top.

We had to check out by noon,  but the staff at the hotel-McMennamins Old St. Francis School Hotel- took pity on us and let us stay in the Nunnery House with  the dogs for free until the car was ready.

We got the call around 3:45 that Vanna was good to go.   Here is the bill for what they did:

I got a call from Kirk at Northwesty too.   He had spoken to the people at German
Master Techs.  Kirk took full responsibility for the oil leaks and said he would pay all costs for the repairs.   Kirk has my complete admiration and lifelong business. Diogenes would have ended his quest after meeting Kirk.  He is truly an honest man.

We took off around 4:30 while it was still light enough to see the lava fields. We made it 24 miles to La Pine before dark.

This is a happy John driving the vanagon for a total of 25 minutes today:

Tomorrow Crater Lake.  We just hope Vanna is in a good mood.
