Michigan

(Short blog today. No wifi)

We left Bloomington for Noblesville so John could visit his sixth grade teacher (and very first crush), but due to a mixup she was in Indy while we were in Noblesville.  She had not told John she had moved.  He was disappointed, but we were too far away by then to go back.

We continued on to Douglas/Saugatuck Michigan with a stop in South Bend to see the campus of Notre Dame. John and I both had the same reaction- underwhelmed by both South Bend and the campus

The scenery changed almost immediately when we crossed the Michigan border.  Farms were replaced by forests, and the trees haven't even started to bud out here. We were told there was ice on Lake Michigan up until three weeks ago.

We did pass blueberry fields, orchards, and even vineyards.

Saugatuck/Douglas are charming. They remind us of a New England town.  Both towns are full of cafés, small shops, and artists' studios.

The beach on Lake Michigan is gorgeous, but the water is ice cold

I loved this sign in Douglas:

We are staying at The Dunes resort and we are the only ones here; it feels a bit like "The Shining" but I'm sure it's a fantastic place in season
