DelMarVa

Our wonderful friends Angelo and George gave us a private tour of Virginia Beach this morning.  It was so nice to have knowledgeable tour guides.   They took us to some beautiful neighborhoods.
We passed this lovely grande dame,

just before we took this pic of the four of us on the boardwalk

We were very sad to leave but look forward to a reunion with them soon in Seattle or Fort Lauderdale.

We crossed the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel, the longest in the world.  It was a bit unnerving to see a tanker crossing over the tunnel just as we were entering.

We drove most of the day on the eastern shore of Virginia and Maryland, and it was a lovely countryside.  The farms were exceptionally well tended and looked very prosperous.

We stopped for freshly caught oysters for lunch; the crab soup was the best I've ever had.

We passed thru a cute town that had the best name I've ever seen for a village.  I absolutely loved both the town and its name.

We continued on to Chincoteague/Asateague Islands.  Chincoteague is developed, and appears to be dependent on fishing and tourism.  Asateague is a national seashore.  Sadly we didn't see any wild horses but we did see lots of birds.

Just before Chincoteague we passed a NASA training facility, out in the middle of nowhere.

After the islands we continued our drive up the eastern shore to our final destination, the home of friends Waltraut and Shane on Chesapeake Bay just outside Annapolis.   They had moved here from Seattle two weeks before. Their home is gorgeous and the view unbelievable.  We are relaxing on their porch watching the sunset over the Chesapeake and enjoying a beer or three.  It's a little slice of of heaven.
