Annapolis

We awoke to a terrific breakfast prepared by Waltraut, the best cook I know, and after three cups of coffee we headed to her neighborhood beach to walk the dogs.  The beach was beautiful and we were the only ones there.  The dogs loved it too.

Here are two prehistoric creatures found on the beach.  One is a horseshoe crab.  The other is just a dinosaur.

I also found a Maryland blue crab, and now I know why they are called "blue"

We brought the dogs back to the house so they could nap and headed off to Annapolis, just a short drive from Waltrauts house.  Annapolis is another wonderful American city and well worth a visit.  It was founded in 1649 and was the temporary capital of the U.S. from 1783-84.  It is home to St. John's College and the Naval Academy.  The Maryland State House is the oldest in continuous use in the U.S.

Here are some pics:

We had a wonderful lunch in Annapolis.  I had the famous blue crab.  Delicious

And Waltraut bought a new hat in honor of the Kentucky Derby.

Tonight my friend of 36 years, Laura, drove an hour and a half to join us for dinner at Waltrauts and John dined with his good friend Scott and his family in McLean.

Laura brought her beautiful dog Zoe, and all four dogs got along just fine. We had steaks for dinner and the mutts enjoyed the leftovers.  It was great to catch up with Laura. She seems ageless;  she hasn't changed a bit.  I'm jealous.

Tomorrow we tour Fallingwater.
