Thoughts
Traveling with a dog is like traveling with a toddler; they have about the same intelligence and communication skills. The difference is a toddler will happily go potty in a diaper but a dog would never consider it. So we have to constantly interpret the dog's behavior to determine if it's time for a potty stop. Is Daisy panting cuz she has to pee or she's just a nervous wreck? (Odds are the latter). Is Poppy sitting up to look for cows or to look for a nearby bush? (Odds are the former). Is that odor from Daisy or is John just trying to blame her? (Odds are the latter). Nine times out of ten it's a false alarm, but it's always a good excuse to stop, admire the scenery, and stretch our legs. But it's also the major reason we travel an average of 30 miles a day.
